- Duplicated files aren't counted twice any more. macOS often keeps one set of data under two names; DiskMapper now counts that space once, so folder sizes match what your disk is really using. One copy shows the size, the others show "no extra space". (Edit one of the copies and macOS separates them again, so both get counted.)
- The Trash confirmation says "up to" when your selection includes copies that share space — deleting one copy on its own frees nothing.
- Windows-formatted (FAT32) USB sticks and memory cards used to show as empty. Fixed.
- Opening DiskMapper from the disk image now prompts you to move it to Applications, where its permissions will stick.
- Biggest Files lists files only, not folders.

- A cleaner window top: Sunburst/Treemap switching now lives in the window's own toolbar with proper labels, alongside a Home button, a Rescan button, and quick access to Settings.
- New Categories view: see your storage grouped into color-coded kinds - Photos, Videos, Music, Documents, Applications, and more, each with its share of the drive and the biggest items inside. Anything you find there can go straight onto the cleanup list.
- The sidebar now shows your startup disk by its real name ("Macintosh HD" on most Macs) instead of a generic label, and Macs with more than one internal drive see all of them listed.
- In a hurry to free up space? "Scan Startup Disk for Junk" on the home screen jumps straight to the System Junk results in one click.
- The home screen's drive cards are bigger and easier to read.
- New installs start with the familiar Finder folders - Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, Applications — as ready-to-scan favorites.
- File lists now show proper Finder icons for files, and fixed a bug where ordinary folders could show another app's icon.
0.9.0 — July 19, 2026
- New home screen: every drive shows up as a card with a ring showing how full it is. Click a drive to start scanning. Your home folder is set up as a favorite out of the box.
- A Home button next to the back/forward arrows takes you back to that screen from anywhere.
- The app keeps itself up to date — it checks diskmapper.app once a day for new versions. You can turn that off in Settings. No usage data or system information is sent.
- Famous quotes from tech legends keep you company during long scans. All 638 of them ship inside the app — nothing is fetched from the internet.
- The map got a visual refresh: a roomier centre hub, breathing space between the rings, and a subtle glow — plus snappier redraws under the hood.
- Fixed scans of your home folder taking forever (or seeming stuck) if you keep a lot of files in iCloud Drive or Dropbox.
- Built-in help: the Help menu now opens the full user guide (⌘?), and there are menu items to visit diskmapper.app or email support with your version details pre-filled.
- A Reset option in Settings clears favorites and scan history without touching any of your settings.
- Biggest Files now lists exactly that — files. It used to mix in folders, which pushed the same gigabytes to the top of the list over and over (a folder is always at least as big as what's inside it) and buried the individual space hogs you'd actually act on.
- Big hidden folders aren't buried anymore. "Hidden items" used to lump everything hidden into one gray wedge — including your Library folder, which can hold hundreds of gigabytes of cloud storage and caches. Now anything sizable shows up as its own (slightly dimmed) piece of the map, and clicking the Hidden items wedge tells you what's actually in it.
- Known issue: files duplicated on your disk (Finder's Duplicate, copied project folders) can make folders look bigger than the space they actually use. A fix is planned for the next release.
